Birds of a Feather (BoF) Sessions
BOF1: Enhancing predictive and explanatory power in AI evaluation through Assessor Models
Date: Monday October 21st
Starting time: 15:00
End time: 17:30
Organizers: Daniel Romero Alvarado, Fernando Martinez Plumed, José Hernández Orallo
Summary:
This Birds of a Feather (BoF) session will explore the emerging concept of assessor models, a novel approach to AI evaluation that aims to predict system outcomes in diverse and previously unseen problem settings.
Assessor models have recently been developed for various applications, including cascading, routing, and the efficient orchestration of Large Language Models . This session will provide a platform for researchers, practitioners, and AI professionals to share insights, discuss methodologies, and foster collaborations aimed at advancing the use of assessor models to improve trust, safety, and transparency in AI systems.
Targeting a diverse audience—from early-career to senior researchers— this session will address critical issues such as refining AI evaluation metrics and methodologies, with a particular focus on predicting AI performance in out-of-distribution scenarios. It promises to be a valuable forum for those working on AI evaluation, system behaviour analysis, and the development of trustworthy AI frameworks.
BOF 2: Data-Driven Venture Capital: Strategies and Tools for Enhancing Investment Processes

BOF 3: Leveraging AI to Foster Leapfrog Development in Emerging Markets
Date: Wednesday October 23rd
Starting time: 15:00
End time: 17:30
Organizers: Yirui Jiang
Summary:
This session aims to explore the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enabling leapfrog development within emerging markets, which often face significant challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, limited access to quality education, and economic instability.
While traditional development pathways are typically slow and resource-intensive, AI presents a unique opportunity for these markets to bypass conventional stages and achieve rapid progress across various sectors.
Our target audience includes researchers, policymakers, business leaders, technologists, and development practitioners interested in the application of AI in emerging economies. To facilitate a comprehensive and engaging exploration of this topic, we propose an interactive game-based approach where each participant will be assigned a specific stakeholder role, such as a government official, AI startup founder, local community leader, or international development agency representative.
Through this role-playing exercise, participants will collaboratively investigate how AI can be harnessed to overcome traditional barriers and accelerate economic growth and development, while considering factors such as ethical implications, cultural impacts, economic feasibility, technological requirements, and regulatory considerations.
This innovative approach will foster cross-disciplinary dialogue, encourage creative problem-solving, and provide valuable insights into the multifaceted aspects of AI-driven development in emerging markets.
